(Taichung)
From Ruifang to Taichung
Carrying our luggages, we took the earliest train from Ruifang to Taipei Main Station and took 7.11am HSR (High Speed Rail) from Taipei Main station to Taichung (HSR ride 1h 4min) . Ticket booked online.
From Taichung HSR station, walked to Xinwuri railway station 5-10mins away and took train from Xinwuri to Taichung railway station (10min ride) , to deposit our luggages. Next, take train from Taichung station to Fengyuan station (10min ride).
Where to deposit luggages in Taichung railway station : 5-10 mins away from train ticketing exit.
Take lift /escalator down to ground level. The luggage storage / deposit is at an extreme end of the station. The opposite end of where most people will be walking..
Targeted places of interest : (1) Cycling the Houfeng and Dongfeng bikeway
(2) Fengjia Night Market
(3) Yizhong Street Shopping
From Fengyuan station, where to take bus to Shigang Dam/ Shigang Shuipa.
From the exit of Fengyuan train Station, extreme left, is Zhongzheng Rd, and to the right of zhongzheng Rd is Sanmin Rd. Head towards Sanmin Rd.
On the right of Sanmin Rd is a big 7eleven store, after the 7 eleven will the Bus interchange.
On Google map : search for Fengyuan bus Fengyuan zong station.
Bus no. to take : 90, 91, 206, 207, 208. Think we took 207 /208.. can't remember which.
Can use EasyCard. (journey 15-20mins)
To Bicycle Rental
After alighting from the bus stop, see the sign below, walk straight (bus direction) and turn left. You will see a bike rental shop. We rented 200 and 250 TWD bicycles. The charges is for whole day. Take the electric ones.... really... our legs became jelly after the whole 1.5 / 2 hr ride... Wabiang.....There are quite a number of slopes on the way.

We missed the Shigang Dam / cannot find... but from map... seems like it's just beside the bike rental shop. Were too tired to explore.
Opposite the bicycle rental shop, is the entrance of Dongfeng bikeway .
To go to the Houfeng bikeway from opposite the bicycle rental shop, cross over to the opposite side,
(where there are a few street food stalls) and go down the underpass, (the opposite direction).
Take note that this is still the Dongfeng bikeway, you will have to ride quite some distance away then you will see the entrance to Houfeng bikeway entrance.

and the tunnel
Had wanted to take a cab from Shigang Dam to Fengjia Night Market, but was advised that it would be very expensive. So, we took the long way, took the bus back to Fengyuan train station, and train back to Taichung.
Ended up, we only went to Yizhong street for shopping. Was very disappointed as we only managed to buy girls' caps and a few fabric mask (very cheap.. only around 25TWD , S$1+) Can't find any nice cheap shoes though....
Disadvantage of purchasing HSR tickets online .
You will only be allowed to take rail at the specified time that you have booked.
Took HSR back to Taipei Main station and MRT to Jiantan to check in to our Taipei accommodation.
Taipei accommodation
We stayed at Play Taipei Backpackers 6-7minutes walk from Jiantan MRT station.
It was opposite Shilin Night Market. Wow!! Shilin Night market was REALLY CROWDED...!
Booked this because of the price, location and also this one looks good from picture and offers 2 double beds and 1 sofa bed. Didn't understand when booking, what 'NO common area' meant.
Basically, it means no reception, and the place we live in is actually an apartment block, with locals living in it.
About the apartment, the two double beds was really hard. Couldn't have good night sleep. Internet router was in another apartment, so when we can't access wifi, gotta think of a way to contact the person in charge to come and reset the router. Inconvenience. The bathroom, somehow looks eerie, the shower door looks worn down. There was no housekeeping, we gotta bring down our rubbish to basement to dispose.
