    Taroko National Park in Hualien

Hualien is the biggest city on the east coast The weather is unpredictable, typhoons are stronger and earthquakes are frequent. The area is one of the world's biggest producers of marble .  The beach is covered with black stones, not sand

How to get to Taroko National Park in Hualien  --> from Taipei

From Taipei City Hall Bus station

Buy combo package (coach+train) to Xincheng around 209TWD. Child ticket at half price.
Coach is from Taipei to Luodong bus terminal , 1 hr ride.  From there, walk less than 5 mins to the train station and take train to Xincheng station, which is nearer to the Taroko National Park. This price entitles you to the Local train or Fast Local train only.  You need to add a surcharge (at the train station) if you want to take either the Tze-Chiang Express or the Chu-Kuang Express train. The train ride is approximately 1h 10min (depends)

We took 6.30am Coach 1570 to Luodong and 7.49am train to Xincheng 1h 10min ride.
    (Note. Timings might differ)

    Taroko National Park Trails

Trails that we had accomplished were Shakadang and Baiyang trails.
We took public transport, bus 302 throughout.

    Shakadang Trail
From Taroko National Park Visitors Center, walk along the road to the west through a tunnel.  The tunnel has a safe pedestrian walkway.

Right after the end of the tunnel - and before a bridge - follow the metal stairs leading to the river.

The river has an amazing and alluring turquoise color.

    To Tianxiang From Shakadang

At the end of the red bridge, (on the right) we took Bus 302 at around 11am straight to Tianxiang   Tianxiang is the only “town” in the gorge, with a bus station, a couple of shops and 7-11.  The bus will drive you along many narrow winding roads and tunnels.

    Baiyang Trail (near Tianxiang)

From 7-11 convenience store at Tianxiang to Start of Baiyang Trail --> around 15-20mins walk.

We had a quick lunch at the 7-11 and continued on to find Baiyang Trail.  From the 7-11 convenience store, walk further in to the Taroko National Park (along the Zhongbu Cross-island Hwy). After around 10mins, you will see a tunnel.  Walk into the tunnel and soon you will see the entrance to Baiyang Trail on the left side of the tunnel.

This is the entrance to the Baiyang Trail.
